11/28/2009: With forecasted winds gusting to 29 knots, we scrapped the planned layout hunt for brant and went diver hunting at our rip rap spot. Ended with 3 limits of birds across 8 species: 1 barrow's goldeneye, 11 common goldeneye, 1 hooded merganser, 1 greater scaup, 2 lesser scaup, 3 bufflehead, 1 mallard, and 1 shoveler.
11/25/2009: Justin and I hunted the Goldie Hole again with goldeneyes finally showing up in the spread. I started off with a double on drake Barrow's, and lots of greenwings in the area. We ended up with 2 Barrow's goldeneye, 4 common goldeneye, and 4 greenwing teal.
11/20/2009: After the morning rains we went out to a traditionally good puddle duck/canvasback spot. We shot 2 gadwall, 1 canvasback, and 1 mallard. I spent 2 frustrating hours looking for a dead mallard that I never found...
11/14/2009: Tried out the "Goldie Hole" for the first time today. Slow hunt, a few bluebill, not many goldeneye in the area yet. Ended up with 6 lesser scaup, 1 common merganser, 1 shoveler, and a 41 pound BEAVER!! Remy got a little workout and Nelli got her first retrieve!
11/7/2009 & 11/8/2009: Hunting in the great state of Texas with Steve. Saw a lot of deer & turkeys and shot a nice 8 point management buck.
11/1/2009: We hunted the same location as yesterday and managed to knock down 24 scoters. The scaup are starting to taunt us even more, they'll get theirs when the season opens for 'em!! Scouted our late season haunts and found them loaded up with more surfs! The wind from the last storm must have pushed them off the big water into some of the calmer areas.
10/31/2009: Today I hunted with friends on the big water. The scoters were thick and didn't mind us sitting in the Mighty Layout Boys' (http://www.mightylayoutboys.com) one man boats. Ended with 30 drake and 5 hen surf scoters. See pics and video!
